Transportation

Airports Serving Santa Cruz, CA:

  • San Francisco International Airport [SFO]

  • San Jose Mineta International Airport [SJC]

  • Oakland International Airport [OAK]

Transportation to Santa Cruz from Airport:

We ask that you make your own arrangements from and to the airport of your choice.

The easiest way to get to Santa Cruz is to take an Uber or Lyft. These are generally cheaper than formal taxi services into Santa Cruz, though they may be harder to locate if you are arriving later in the day. If arriving late, you may consider reserving a shuttle for pickup. Campus travelers regularly use Blue Water Sedans & Limousines or Early Bird Shuttles. Call or email them directly to schedule a shuttle pickup. These services require at least a week's notice to schedule a ride.

If you would prefer to rent your own car, a number of rental companies are located within each airport. Book ahead to ensure a vehicle is available upon arrival.

Getting to Campus from Santa Cruz and the Surrounding Areas

Santa Cruz Metro Buses: METRO buses operate throughout Santa Cruz County. Regular service is provided between downtown Santa Cruz and the campus, using various routes including Laurel Street (Routes 15/16), Bay Street (Route 19), High Street (Route 10), Western Drive (Route 20/20D), and UCSC/Coastal Science Campus (Route 22).

UCSC Shuttles (TAPS Transit): The Campus Transit system operates two daytime routes (the Loop and Upper Campus). During the summer TAPS operates on a limited schedule.

Visitor Parking: If you are driving your own vehicle or a rental car to campus during the conference, you will be able to register it on the days of the conference. More details will be provided in advance of the conference.

Lodging

In order to assure affordable accommodations for all, we have reserved a block of low-cost lodging in campus apartments available through UCSC Conference Services. Campus lodging will be available from August 21-25, 2024. Participants who chose this option will be able to book a single room at a rate of $143.22/night. All bedding and towels will be provided.

Details on how to sign up for this option will be forthcoming. We encourage all conference participants—especially graduate students—to strongly consider this option as it is the most cost effective and does not require additional transportation arrangements.

The PRSA conference is occurring at the height of the tourist season in Santa Cruz and other areas of the Central Coast, so we recommend booking your accommodations as soon as possible.

There are a range of hotel and Airbnb options within a 3-mile radius of the UCSC campus. Even if you are not staying in the areas directly surrounding campus, it is not difficult to get to campus by renting a car or using ride-sharing services.

Hotels nearby:

These hotels are further from campus but still accessible by some public transportation, ride-shares, or if you are renting a car.

Travel Grants

PRSA is delighted to be able to offer a limited amount of travel grants to graduate students to help offset the cost of conference travel. Five $500 grants will be awarded to five eligible participants on a need-basis. All graduate students registered to present at PRSA are eligible to apply. To apply, please complete the form by May 15.
