Events Announcements

We're really excited to collaborate with the Latin American Studies Association Puerto Rico Section to provide our members and the general public with a forum to hear from three amazing editors to help you "Publish Your Boricua Book"!

We will hear from Andreína Fernández from University of North Carolina Press, Rachel Vega Decesario from The New Press, and Beth Colón Pizzini from University of Virginia Press.

SAVE THE DATE: April 12, 2024.

Join the Black and Indigenous Feminist Futures Institute, the Palestinian Feminist Collective, the Diaspora Solidarities Lab, the NYU Latinx Project, and the Puerto Rican Studies Association, for our virtual symposium, “At the Edge of Each Other’s Battles“: Puerto Rican, Palestinian, Black & Indigenous Feminist Futures.

This symposium uses the words of poet Audre Lorde as a point of departure to showcase burgeoning scholarship, art, colonization, dispossession, and solidarity practices.

Attendance will be free and will include simultaneous translation.

Graduate Student Pre-Conference Workshop

In line with the Puerto Rican Studies Association’s 2024 conference theme, we will be organizing a pre-conference workshop geared towards graduate students working on questions of solidarity and social movements. It is our hope that the PRSA will continue to be an organizational home for junior scholars producing cutting-edge work.

As part of the workshop, students will have an opportunity to share a written work-in-progress (dissertation chapter or journal article) with an assigned faculty mentor and receive feedback. In addition to one-on-one mentorship opportunities, students will also be able to present in a small panel setting and receive additional feedback from peers and faculty in attendance.

A small cohort of students will be selected on a competitive basis to participate in the workshop and will be given travel grants to help defray the cost of attendance. We hope to award approximately five travel grants to graduate students to participate in the workshop and present in the conference. Students must be ABD (past comps/exams) at the time of the workshop in order to participate.

To be considered for a spot in the graduate student workshop, please send please following documents in one file to our email [ricanstudies@gmail.com].

  1. C.V.

  2. 1000 word (max) abstract describing your dissertation project or the work in progress you hope to present, and your contribution to Puerto Rican Studies.

The deadline for submissions is March 15, 2024. Upon acceptance, participants will be required to pay their membership dues and register for the conference.
